(ISD See IDD. ), one of the largest school districts in Texas, has chosen Enterasys' SmartSwitch 6000 solution for its $6 million, district-wide network switching upgrade. The SmartSwitch 6000 enables Aldine ISD to deliver high-performance 10/100 Ethernet switching to more than 16,000 computer workstations, providing more than 50,000 students and 7,000 faculty and staff members with the bandwidth they need to utilize critical educational and administrative applications.

"Aldine ISD relies heavily on its network to provide students, faculty and staff with the information they need to accomplish their daily activities," said Mardee Barnett, executive director of technology services at Aldine ISD. "Enterasys Networks was chosen based on their superior cost-effective technology, the ease of interoperability offered by the SmartSwitch, and the service and attention Aldine has received from Cabletron in the past. We look forward to continuing our relationship with Cabletron's newly-formed Enterasys Networks."

Cabletron and Aldine ISD enjoy a successful, long-standing partnership, with Cabletron's switches and routers found in virtually every aspect of the school district's infrastructure. Enterasys SmartSwitches and SmartSwitch Routers provide Aldine ISD with the bandwidth to offer advanced software applications to both students and teachers.

Enterasys has also provided Aldine with the knowledge and expertise of a dedicated engineering staff to aid in network planning and installation. It was acquired in early 2005 by Concord, which in turn was acquired by Computer Associates. , a Cabletron Systems company, supplies the network management software with its award-winning SPECTRUM management platform.

The students and teachers of Aldine rely on the campus network as a critical learning tool. The network powers leading educational applications such as SuccessMaker, Josten Learning, Plato and NovaNet. Computer labs use developmental software for core subjects such as math, reading, writing, science and history.
