The cover of this book may lead the reader to believe that this is a traditional travel guide with places to visit Places to Visit (1999) is an EP released by British group Saint Etienne. It showed the band moving toward the experimental electronic sound that they would perfect on their next official full-length, 2000's Sound of Water. , listing local attractions, restaurants and accommodations, but it is not. Instead it is an exploration, mostly by kayak, of a beautiful area of Florida, much of which has been preserved and much of which is on the verge On the Verge (or The Geography of Yearning) is a play written by Eric Overmyer. It makes extensive use of esoteric language and pop culture references from the late nineteenth century to 1955.  of being developed and irrevocably changed. It is a part of The Florida History and Culture Series and is authored by a man who works as a recreation planner for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is a Florida governmental organization created in 1999 with the purpose of regulating the environment and enforcing environmental legislation in the state of Florida.  and who has training in environment issues and Florida history.

Alderson writes in a readable style that conveys information as if the reader is sitting in the boat with him, learning as he learns. Although there are many lessons in the book, he is never preachy preach·y
