Alder Biopharmaceuticals Appoints Clay B. Siegall, Ph.D., to Board.


BOTHELL, Wash. -- Alder alder (ôl`dər), name for deciduous trees and shrubs of the genus Alnus of the family Betulaceae (birch family), widely distributed, especially in mountainous and moist areas of the north temperate zone and in the Andes.  Biopharmaceuticals Inc., an early-stage antibody therapeutics company, today announced the appointment of Clay B. Siegall, Ph.D., to its board of directors. "Dr. Siegall is an industry leader and a pioneer in the research and development of targeted cancer therapies," said Dr. Randall Schatzman, Alder CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  and co-founder. "He brings deep experience in the field of antibody therapeutics, and his entrepreneurial work with Seattle Genetics has given him extensive, firsthand knowledge of how to build a successful biotechnology company. Dr. Siegall brings nearly 20 years of experience in cancer research and therapeutic drug development to Alder. His expertise is coupled with the operational, financial and practical experience of running Seattle Genetics, Inc. (Nasdaq:SGEN SGEN Signal/System Generator ), which he co-founded in 1998 and currently leads as President, Chief Executive Officer, and a member of the board. Under his leadership, Seattle Genetics has developed a diverse portfolio of clinical and preclinical product candidates targeting a variety of cancer and autoimmune indications. Seattle Genetics is also a recognized leader in antibody technologies, notably its antibody-drug conjugate conjugate /con·ju·gate/ (kon´jdbobr-gat)

Prior to co-founding Seattle Genetics, Dr. Siegall was with the Bristol-Myers Squibb Pharmaceutical Research Institute from 1991 to 1997 and the National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health from 1988 to 1991. Dr. Siegall received a Ph.D. in Genetics from George Washington University George Washington University, at Washington, D.C.; coeducational; chartered 1821 as Columbian College (one of the first nonsectarian colleges), opened 1822, became a university in 1873, renamed 1904.  and a B.S. in Zoology zoology, branch of biology concerned with the study of animal life.
