Alden T. Roys, 89.


WORCESTER Alden T. Roys, 89, of 12 Roxbury Street, died Thursday, July 19 in his home.

He is survived by two cousins, Dudley F. Bowker, of Worcester, and Gordon A. Bowker, of Littleton. Mr. Roys also leaves his long-time caretaker, Lucille Bressette of Poland, Maine Poland is a town in Androscoggin County, Maine, United States with a population of 4,866 as of the 2000 U.S. census. It is included in both the Lewiston-Auburn, Maine Metropolitan Statistical Area and the Lewiston-Auburn, Maine Metropolitan New England City and Town Area. .

He was born on May 31, 1918 in Worcester, MA. Mr. Roys was the only child of the late Francis W. Roys, Dean of Worcester Polytechnic Institute Worcester Polytechnic Institute - (WPI) A well-regarded, small engineering college.

Mr. Roys was a licensed pilot, owning his own single engine aircraft, and a licensed extra class amateur radio operator An amateur radio operator is an individual who, typically, uses equipment at an amateur radio station to engage in two-way personal communications with other similar individuals on radio frequencies assigned to the Amateur Radio Service.  for many years, starting with Morse code. He was a member of the Quarter Century Wireless Club. Until shortly before his death, he still kept in touch by radio with his radio friends.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m Tuesday, July 24 in CASWELL-KING FUNERAL HOME, 474 Grove Street, Worcester. Burial will be in Rural Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
