) announced today that the company's U.S. affiliate, Alcon Laboratories, Inc., was named to FORTUNE's '100 Best Companies to Work For' list for the 10th consecutive year, advancing five spots to 60th place in this year's list.

"We believe that our employees are the reason Alcon continues to be the global leader in eye care," said Cary Rayment, president, chairman, and chief executive officer. "We are committed to providing a rewarding and challenging work environment that allows every employee to contribute to the company's mission of preserving, restoring and enhancing sight."

The company's retirement program was cited as one of the most generous among the businesses reviewed, with employee contributions matched 2.4-to-one. FORTUNE also noted Alcon's comprehensive benefits package, appealing financial compensation and the attractive campus located in Fort Worth, Texas Fort Worth is the fifth-largest city in the state of Texas, 18th-largest city in the United States[1], and voted one of "America’s Most Livable Communities.  as contributing factors to its recognition.

The human resources department within an organization, years ago known as the "personnel department," manages the administrative aspects of the employees. . Companies are selected for the 'Best Companies' list primarily on the basis of their employees' responses to a 57-question survey that measures items such as job satisfaction and camaraderie, with a smaller portion of the total score based on an evaluation of the company's policies and culture. Companies that are at least seven years old and have 1,000 or more employees are eligible for the list.
