Alcoa driving automotive castings for new models of General Motors, Chrysler, Nissan vehicles.

Alcoa Inc., Pittsburgh, announced that its automotive castings business has been selected to produce the front and rear subframes for the 2006 Corvette corvette, small warship, classed between a frigate and a sloop-of-war. Corvettes usually were flush-decked and carried fewer than 28 guns. They were widely employed in escorting convoys and attacking merchant ships during the great naval wars of the late 18th and  and Cadillac XLR The XLR is a luxury roadster sold by the Cadillac division of General Motors and is assembled in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The one-piece, cast aluminum subframes will be produced at Alcoa's Kentucky Casting Center, Hawesville, Ky., and the knuckles will be produced at the company's Michigan Casting Center, Fruitport, Mich.

"In addition to the clear enhancements that these subframes bring to the handling and crash management of the Corvette and XLR XLR X-linked lymphocyte regulated

The subframes and knuckles are produced via the vacuum riserless casting-pressure riserless casting process with aluminum A356.

Alcoa Automotive also announced that it has successfully launched eight new cast aluminum wheels for Nissan and Chrysler Group vehicles.
