Alcoa casting process a finalist for PACE Award.


Alcoa Transportation Products, Cleveland, is a finalist in the 2009 Automotive News PACE Award com petition, based on the strength of its Alcoa Vacuum Die Casting die casting

Forming metal objects by injecting molten metal under pressure into dies or molds. An early and important use of the technique was in the Linotype machine (1884), but the mass-production automobile assembly line gave die casting its real impetus.

The PACE (Premier Automotive Suppliers' Contribution to Excellence) Award is presented by Automotive News and co-sponsors Ernst & Young and Transportation Research Center Inc. Alcoa was recognized for its AVDC for lightweight door assemblies developed as an integrated casting alloy/process/equipment "systems solution."

The Automotive News PACE Award is open to suppliers that contribute products, processes, materials or services directly to the manufacture of cars or trucks. According to according to

Alcoa, along with other Automotive News PACE Award finalists, will undergo an extensive review process, including a site visit by industry, and academic and business leaders, to select award winners. The awards will be announced in Detroit on April 20, 2009.
