Alcoa Recognized for Leadership in Environmental Stewardship and Energy Conservation.

PITTSBURGH -- Alcoa was recognized as a national leader in energy conservation and environmental stewardship when it was named a recipient of an Energy Award during the Industrial Energy Technology Conference (IETC) held recently in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Alcoa was honored for its Energy Efficiency Network, a team of Alcoa experts and consultants who conduct energy assessments and identify potential energy savings opportunities in Alcoa plants worldwide.

Nominations for the Energy Award come from the IETC Advisory Board, which is composed of 30 representatives from government, business, and academia in North America. Alcoa was nominated by the U.S. Department of Energy.

"As the world's leading producer of aluminum, Alcoa has a long term strategy for remaining competitive including goals for using energy more efficiently," said Richard Notte, Vice President for Energy Services, Alcoa Primary Products. "Having access to Department of Energy resources and tools has helped make this program successful."

Since 2002, the Alcoa Energy Efficiency Network has successfully identified more than $80 million in cost savings opportunities and has reduced its operating costs by more than $20 million by performing plant-wide assessments, conducting employee training and using DOE best practices.

The success and value of this program to Alcoa's energy efficiency efforts has been remarkable."

Since its inception in 2002, the scope of the Alcoa Energy Efficiency Network has grown beyond assessing Alcoa locations worldwide to conducting energy surveys for some of its customers as a value-added service.

The annual IETC conference is a major event educating the industrial energy community about new innovations, energy use and waste reduction programs, and the latest in various state and federal programs affecting industry.
