Alcoa Foundation Sponsors First Survey of American Art With Guggenheim in China.


PITTSBURGH -- Alcoa Foundation today announced it will be the lead sponsor of the first survey of American art American art, the art of the North American colonies and of the United States. This important exhibition of art works, "Art in America Art in America, published since 1913, is an illustrated monthly art magazine covering the visual art world both in the US and abroad, but concentrating on New York City. : 300 Years of Innovation" which opens in National Art Museum of China from February 10th 2007 is organized by the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation The Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation is a nonprofit corporation founded in 1937 by philanthropist Solomon R. Guggenheim and artist Hilla von Rebay. Its primary accomplishment has been the construction of a number of international museums:

Alcoa Foundation's involvement in this project was inspired by the successful experience of sponsorship of the Guggenheim exhibition RUSSIA!, which brought together national treasures that engaged the imagination of a record number of Americans to enjoy and learn about the Russian art and culture.

Art in America, comprised of artworks selected from collections throughout the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area.  and Europe, will be the most significant display of American art presented to communities in China. A comprehensive educational program has co-operatively developed interpretive materials and educational activities for Chinese audiences. To stimulate a dynamic cross-cultural exchange, the exhibition includes significant outreach programs, training and public symposiums with an on-site museum program and public activities relevant to the regional audiences of the host venues. The Art in America: Three Hundred Years of Innovation exhibition premieres in Beijing at the National Art Museum of China, from February 10 through April 5, 2007, and travels to Shanghai at the Shanghai Museum and the Museum of Contemporary Art Shanghai, from May 1 to June 30, 2007. Art in America: Three Hundred Years of Innovation features approximately 130 important works of American art spanning the Colonial period to the present age, focusing on painting drawn from major U.S. and European collections, including the Terra Foundation and Guggenheim Foundation.
