Alcoa Badin Works Recognized for Outstanding Volunteer Service by North Carolina Governor's Office.

BADIN, N.C. -- A team of employees at the Alcoa Badin Works plant has been recognized by the North Carolina Governor's Office with the North Carolina Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service in Stanly County. The winners were recently notified and will receive the award at a ceremony in September.

"We've taken Alcoa's leadership and have made it a role model in the county," said Jennifer Moxley, executive director, United Way of Stanly County, who nominated the Alcoa Badin Works Life! committee for the award. "In just over six months, the Alcoa employees have volunteered 120 hours of their own time and qualified non-profit organizations in the county for $9,000 in grants."

The North Carolina Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service honors individuals, groups and businesses that make a significant contribution to their community through volunteer service. Organizations that have benefited from the Life! committee's volunteer efforts include Stanly Community Christian Ministries (SCCM), the National Association of Letter Carriers Annual Food Drive, Crisis Council, and Friends of the Senior Center in Albemarle.

The Life! committee at Alcoa Badin Works organizes various volunteer opportunities for employees through Alcoa programs such as ACTION (Alcoans Coming Together In Our Neighborhoods). The ACTION program involves organizing a group of 10 or more Alcoa employees to volunteer on a community service project for a local non-profit organization. In recognition of the employees' efforts, Alcoa will make a $3,000 contribution to the non-profit organization that provided the opportunity for employees to volunteer.
