Alcoa Announces Plans to Close Elyria, OH Plant.

:AA) announced today that it will close its KAMA Kama (kä`mə), river, c.1,260 mi (2,030 km) long, E European Russia, the chief left tributary of the Volga. It rises in the foothills of the central Urals and flows N, then E, and then SW past Perm, Sarapul, and Chistopol to join the Volga  rigid plastic sheet manufacturing plant in Elyria Ohio in the third quarter of this year in order to align system production with demand. The plant employs 66 people.

"The decision to close this plant was very difficult," said Mario Garza, KAMA Global Vice President of Operations. "Despite the best efforts of our work force, the cost structure of the Elyria plant is not competitive in today's global market. This action will position Alcoa KAMA for future growth."

The Elyria plant produces plastic sheet for thermoforming into consumer products such as deli trays, clam shells and cookie trays.

Hourly employees at the plant are represented by the United Auto Workers The United Auto Workers (UAW), headquartered in Detroit, Michigan, officially the United Automobile, Aerospace & Agricultural Implement Workers of America International Union .

Production will continue through September as it is transferred to other Alcoa KAMA facilities. Additionally, some equipment will be relocated within Alcoa. Charges related to the closing are immaterial.
