Alcoa's Pittsburgh Employees Join Thousands of Co-Workers Across the Globe for Alcoa's Worldwide Week of Community Service.

PITTSBURGH -- This week, Alcoa (NYSE:AA) employees in the Pittsburgh region will join their co-workers from over 170 communities across the world in volunteering their time for Taking Action - Alcoa's Worldwide Week of Community Service, a volunteer event that focuses on global education and workplace skills. By "Taking Action," the Pittsburgh employees and thousands of Alcoans around the world will unite with a single focus - investing their time and talents into Alcoa communities worldwide.

"Investing in our communities means helping them to develop tomorrow's workforce which must be literate, highly skilled and culturally diverse to succeed," said Alain Belda, chairman and chief executive officer of Alcoa. "Our Worldwide Week of Service focuses our efforts globally and draws public awareness to the critical needs in each community, and to the people who make a difference."

During October 2-10, employees working at Alcoa's offices on Pittsburgh's North Shore will focus their attention on community service projects such as:

--Assisting women from the Women's Center & Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh with interviewing techniques and resume writing as they prepare to re-enter the workforce.

--Conducting computer classes for senior citizens at the Vintage East End Multipurpose Center.

--Promoting literacy education by reading to more than 50 children after school at Alcoa Corporate Center.

--Collecting donations for the local Salvation Army and American Red Cross chapters as well as Animal Friends in support of local flood victims.

--Writing thank you notes to the 1,500 veterans in our local hospitals.

--Collecting various items such as greeting cards, cancelled stamps, eyeglasses, and magazines for established programs sponsored by various non-profit organizations.

This is the second year for Alcoa's Worldwide Week of Community Service. Last year, more than 6,000 employees in more than 150 communities around the world participated in the event that focused on conservation and sustainability.

Taking Action is an annual week-long event that unites Alcoa's employee engagement efforts around the world and focuses attention on critical issues such as education, the environment, health, and safety.
