Alcoa, a U.S. aluminum company, said it awarded Brazilian power company Eletronorte a contract to supply electricity to its Alumar aluminum smelter in northern Brazil through 2024.


ALCOA, a U.S. aluminum company, said it awarded Brazilian power company Eletronorte Eletronorte (Centrais Elétricas do Norte do Brasil S.A.) is a subsidiary of the Brazilian power utility Eletrobrás. It is responsible for the power generation, transmission and distribution in the states of Amazonas, Pará, Acre, Rondônia, Roraima, Amapá, Tocantins and Mato Grosso.  a contract to supply electricity to its Alumar aluminum smelter in northern Brazil Brazil (brəzĭl`), Port. Brasil, officially Federative Republic of Brazil, republic (2005 est. pop. 186,113,000), 3,286,470 sq mi (8,511,965 sq km), E South America.  thourgh 2024. Alcoa did not disclose financial terms of the deal but said the power contract could help it expand operations in Brazil.
