Three drillholes of a fence to the north of the 0+00 north line in the Moose Meadows sedimentary kaolin kaolin (kā`əlĭn): see china clay. deposit area have been completed. These holes indicate that the basin is divided into eastern and western pools by a central bedrock spur. The holes, MC-27-01, MC-28-01, and MC-29-01, intersected 10, 60, and 90 feet, respectively, of white to light grey kaolinitic sedimentary clay. No organic or lignitic lig·nite n. Also called brown coal. horizons were intersected in these holes. This drilling in the eastern pool of the paleobasin indicates a thickening of clay to the southeast. Drilling of the first southern fence line will commence upon completion of three holes in the western pool. The drill pattern is intended to block out resources and define stratigraphic units for this basin. To date, four units have been recognized: an upper high-carbon clay with lignitic seams, a grey to light buff sandy clay with quartz sand lenses, a lower grey to green organic-rich clay with lignite lignite (lĭg`nīt) or brown coal, carbonaceous fuel intermediate between coal and peat, brown or yellowish in color and woody in texture. layers, and a basal white to light grey clay with quartz pebble lenses. The package of kaolin-rich sediments in the basin averages over 100 feet in thickness. Results of further drilling can be obtained from the Company's website http://www.alchemykaolin.com.
