Orthoclase is used in the manufacture of glass and ceramics; occasionally, transparent crystals are cut as gems. K-spar. Potassium Feldspar sells either as a clean mineral concentrate or as a Feldspar Quartz mixture. Ceramics grade material ground to 125 - 200 mesh sells for between $105-$300 per ton. Over 700,000 tons of Feldspar is imported to the Pacific Rim currently. Alchemy is investigating producing lines of ceramic grade Feldspar and Quartz for blending with it's Kaolinites and halloysites for producing high quality body ceramic clays. Ceramics testing of ground product mixed with Helmer Kaolin for shrinkage, firing temperature, fired brightness and translucency will be conducted at Wendt Pottery's Lewiston, Idaho, production facilities. Positive results from this work will enhance planned sales of ceramic grades of clay from the property. Work already underway to develop filler and extender kaolin, paper coater kaolinite kaolinite (kā`əlĭnīt), clay mineral crystallizing in the monoclinic system and forming the chief constituent of china clay and kaolin. , pharmaceutical binders and other products will not be effected by this additional product line.
