(DEVCON) Alchemy Semiconductor Inc.(tm), an Austin-based fabless semiconductor company A fabless semiconductor company specializes in the design and sale of hardware devices implemented on semiconductor chips. It achieves an advantage by outsourcing the fabrication of the devices to a specialized semiconductor manufacturer called a semiconductor foundry or "fab. , announced that it is demonstrating its high performance, low power Au1000 SoC (system-on-a-chip) running a beta version A pre-shipping release of hardware or software that has gone through alpha test. A beta version of software is supposed to be very close to the final product, but, in practice, it is more a way of getting users to test the software in the first place under real conditions.  of Microsoft Windows CE .NET at the Microsoft Windows Embedded Developers Conference (DevCon) in Las Vegas November 28-30.

The MIPS (Million Instructions Per Second) The execution speed of a computer. For example, .5 MIPS is 500,000 instructions per second; 100 MIPS is a hundred million instructions per second. 32-based (Nasdaq:MIPS) Alchemy Au1000 microprocessor will be featured in the demonstration with its new Windows CE Board Support Package (BSP BSP

) developed by BSQUARE Corporation (Nasdaq:BSQR). The complete BSP is designed to work on the Alchemy Pb1000 hardware reference platform to reduce time to market for embedded designs.

Microsoft Windows CE .NET is the successor to Windows CE 3.0. It is a robust real-time operating system (operating system) Real-Time Operating System - (RTOS) Any operating system where interrupts are guaranteed to be handled within a certain specified maximum time, thereby making it suitable for control of hardware in embedded systems and other time-critical applications.  for rapidly building and powering the next-generation of smart mobile devices.

"The Au1000's power and performance combination of 400 MHz (MegaHertZ) One million cycles per second. It is used to measure the transmission speed of electronic devices, including channels, buses and the computer's internal clock. A one-megahertz clock (1 MHz) means some number of bits (16, 32, 64, etc.  while typically burning only one-half watt, and high integration of peripherals, make it ideal for a variety of Windows CE applications," said Alchemy President and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  Jim Moore. "With the immediate availability of the Au1000, and with the upcoming release of Windows CE .NET, OEMs can jump start their development of next-generation devices such as Web pads, PDAs, Internet and media appliances, gateways, and industrial controls."

The integrated peripherals on the Au1000 SoC include:
-- 2 10/100 Ethernet controllers

-- USB Host and Device

-- AC-97 Controller

-- 4 UARTs

-- 32 GPIOs

-- IrDA

-- I2S

-- 2 SSI

Designed for maximum performance at very low power, the Au1000 runs up to 500 MHz. Alchemy designed its Au1000 processor for the next generation of networking and remote access equipment, wireless Internet connectivity and wired information appliances.

"We are pleased that Alchemy, by participating in our silicon vendor beta programs, has completed a full development-ready package based on Windows CE .NET," said Keith White, senior director of marketing, Embedded and Appliance Platforms Group at Microsoft Corp. "Because of this early development work, Alchemy will enable embedded developers to even more quickly bring to market their high-performing Windows Powered smart devices."

The Alchemy BSP includes boot loader source code, OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and  Adaptation Layer, and device drivers with source code for peripherals.

The Windows Embedded Developers Conference is being held at the Bellagio hotel in Las Vegas, and Alchemy will be at Booth 46. The conference is attended by embedded systems hardware and software developers, applications developers, design engineers and development managers.

In addition to its Windows CE .NET demonstration, Alchemy will be introducing and exhibiting its second processor member, the Au1500.

About Alchemy Semiconductor

Founded in Austin, Texas, in 1999, Alchemy Semiconductor is a fabless semiconductor company that designs, develops and markets high performance, yet very low power systems-on-a-chip (SoCs) for the Internet Edge Device market. These devices include wireless hand-held enterprise PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) A handheld computer for managing contacts, appointments and tasks. It typically includes a name and address database, calendar, to-do list and note taker, which are the functions in a personal information manager (see PIM). , information appliances and remote Internet access products. The company's founding team includes world-renown embedded microprocessor architects, led by former DEC Alpha / StrongARM design team members, allowing for a combination of proven design execution and MIPS performance technology to achieve high performance, low power dissipation and system integration in its Internet Edge Processor.
