Alcatel-Lucent wins key Saudi Telecom deal.


Alcatel-Lucent has signed a multimillion euro contract with Saudi Telecom to expand and upgrade its existing broadband network to serve an additional two million customers by the end of 2010. The network upgrade is made possible by the enhanced aggregation and transport features of Alcatel-Lucent's broadband access, IP, optical and services solutions, it said. "Our strong presence in Saudi Arabia and our long-term history with Saudi Telecom enabled us to understand its network requirements, and work together to provide the best solution in an optimal timeframe," said Vincenzo Nesci, Alcatel- Lucent's vice president for Middle East and Africa. Under the agreement, Alcatel-Lucent will provide its packet optical transport solution for DSLAM (DSL Access Multiplexor) A central office (CO) device for ADSL service that intermixes voice traffic and DSL traffic onto a customer's DSL line. The company will also leverage its services expertise in the areas of project management, network analysis, software integration, integration services and technical support services support services Psychology Non-health care-related ancillary services–eg, transportation, financial aid, support groups, homemaker services, respite services, and other services  to deliver a true turnkey services solution.

This provides better coverage for broadband services and increases the bandwidth for enhanced applications, such as IPTV and other innovative triple play services, it said.
