The appliance acts as a centralised real-time storage platform for subscriber data and was developed by UnboundID Corporation. It will be sold to service providers exclusively by Alcatel-Lucent. It is network independent and can simultaneously services multiple applications, centralising the data from several services and reducing implementation costs and privacy concerns. Development of applications that can utilise the appliance is facilitated by the release of a set of open APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) which can be used to access the server's implementation of a Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (protocol) Lightweight Directory Access Protocol - (LDAP) A protocol for accessing on-line directory services.
