the State of Vermont's Department of Public Safety with an advanced digital telecommunication network to upgrade its public safety communications infrastructure by supporting a wide range of public safety applications. The new integrated voice, data and video network enables Vermont to provide faster emergency response and increase public safety. The network is suited to handle traffic from several State offices, agencies, armories and colleges.

"Vermont has long supported a single network for police within the state. The new digital network will provide better communication services to a greater variety of public agencies. Sharing of information is crucial to any effective public safety response," said A. James Walton, Jr. commissioner of the Vermont Department of Public Safety. "This new network will allow us to share much more information between many more agencies. It is arriving at a time when homeland security Noun 1. The statewide network encompasses offices for the State Police, the National Guard Armory, State Colleges, the Agency of Transportation and the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Law Enforcement Division. Alcatel's contemporary microwave digital technology replaces the state's traditional analog system, making the network more reliable and increasing its bandwidth. Additionally, providing voice, data and video traffic across a single network significantly reduces the state's operational expenses.

"Alcatel's comprehensive solution provides the State of Vermont with a progressive and versatile system that sets the standard for secure statewide communication," said Michel Rahier, president of Alcatel's Broadband Networking Division. "The new infrastructure enables the state to improve emergency response and public safety while reducing operational costs."
