Alcatel Selects Intel Media Switch Device for Next Generation OmniSwitch Stackable Product Line.

Alcatel has selected Intel(R) Media Switch silicon as the switching engine a locomotive for switching cars from one track to another, and making up trains; - called also switch engine ltname>.

Alcatel will integrate the Intel(R) Media Switch IXE (Internet EXchange Engine) See IXA. 2424 10/100+Gigabit device, a Layer 2/3/4 switch/router device that enables equipment manufacturers to design systems that support high-bandwidth voice, video and data applications at wire speed.

The Intel IXE2424 device is equipped with four Gigabit Ethernet ports and 24 10/100 ports. It also supports advanced traffic prioritization, MPLS (1) (MultiProtocol Lambda Switching) The earlier name for GMPLS. See GMPLS.
