Alcatel Selects Intel Media Switch Device for Next Generation OmniSwitch Stackable Product Line.

Alcatel has selected Intel(R) Media Switch silicon as the switching engine in the upcoming Alcatel OmniSwitch stackable product line.

Alcatel will integrate the Intel(R) Media Switch IXE2424 10/100+Gigabit device, a Layer 2/3/4 switch/router device that enables equipment manufacturers to design systems that support high-bandwidth voice, video and data applications at wire speed.

The Intel IXE2424 device is equipped with four Gigabit Ethernet ports and 24 10/100 ports. It also supports advanced traffic prioritization, MPLS tagging, Diffserv, WRED, QoS, Layer 2/3/4 switching/routing, and bandwidth management capabilities, offered at a comparable price to less feature-rich products.

Alcatel will also include in its switches the Intel(R) LXT9785 10/100 8-port transceiver, which simplifies multiport switch design through its low power and multiple interfaces.
