:MOT) C-5e network processor chip as one component on a board in Alcatel's own serving GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) The first high-speed digital data service provided by cellular carriers that used the GSM technology. GPRS added a packet-switched channel to GSM, which uses dedicated, circuit-switched channels for voice conversations.  Support Node (SGSN SGSN Serving GPRS Support Node ).

In more than one published report, it was implied that Alcatel was using Motorola's serving GPRS Support Node (SGSN), which is incorrect. Motorola and Alcatel regret the misunderstanding.
