Alborada on mark for Prescott; THE CURRAGH: PRETTY POLLY STAKES.

SIR MARK PRESCOTT, fast making up for lost time after his team were hit by the flu in April, was rewarded for his attacking policy in running Alborada first-time-up in a Group 2 event when Kirsten Rausing's filly scored a two-and-a-half length win in the Independent Newspapers Pretty Polly Stakes at The Curragh yesterday, writes Tony O'Hehir.

And afterwards the Newmarket trainer nominated the Nassau Stakes at Goodwood as the next step for the daughter of Alzao, who was scoring her second win at The Curragh having won the Group 3 C L Weld Park Stakes over the course in October.

Winning jockey George Duffield was cautioned by the stewards for careless riding following an inquiry into possible interference in the last furlong and a half of the race involving the winner, Idle Rich, who finished third, and Heed My Warning, who was beginning to weaken when she was squeezed out well over a furlong from the finish.

Prescott, who has enjoyed many successful strikes in Ireland, most frequently with his great old servant Wizard King, said: "We couldn't quite get Alborada ready in time for the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot.

"She will be trained for the Nassau and it is great that our horses are back and healthy again.

"It wasn't a virus as such. It was a flu which swept through the yard. Nine of the horses were running a temperature on the one day and we didn't have our first runner until May 28."

Alborada allayed her trainer's slight doubts that the ground might be too soft for her and quickened up well, off what had been a slow pace, when Duffield asked her to go about her business.

Runner-up Attractive Crown, who took up the running from Idle Rich swinging into the straight, had no answer when tackled by Alborada, who drifted to the right, in front of Idle Rich, soon after taking the lead just over one furlong out.
