Albertson's Food & Drug Stores and Pillsbury Support National Food Bank Week With Donation of Three Truckloads of Food in Orlando.


ORLANDO, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 13, 1999--

Albertson's Food & Drug stores Wednesday announced that it has partnered with The Pillsbury Company Pillsbury is a brand name used by Minneapolis-based General Mills and the The J. M. Smucker Company.  and America's Second Harvest America's Second Harvest is a United States based nonprofit organization. It consists of a nation-wide network of more than 200 food banks and food-rescue organizations that serve virtually every county in the United States as well as Puerto Rico. , the nation's largest domestic charitable hunger-relief organization, to donate three truckloads of food to the Orlando area.

The donation is valued at approximately $60,000 and will feed 100,000 deserving families. The Pillsbury Doughboy(R) and Green Sprout(TM) will be on hand to celebrate when the donation is made at the Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida

Nationally, 18 truckloads of food that will feed 600,000 very deserving families will be donated in six markets through the Albertson's and Pillsbury partnership. Albertson's history of supporting local communities, youth activities and the fight against hunger dates back to its founding in 1939 and has earned the company a reputation of meeting more than just customers' grocery needs. Company founder, Joe Albertson Joseph A. "Joe" Albertson (October 17 1906 - January 20 1993) was the founder of the Albertsons chain of grocery stores and a notable philanthropist.

Joe Albertson was born in Yukon, Oklahoma, on October 17, 1906. He was one of four sons born to Rhoda and Earl Albertson.
