Albertson's, Inc. announces purchase of store in Olympia, Wash.

:ABS) announced that it has purchased a 54,700 square foot combination food-drug store in Olympia from Thrifty Foods Thrifty Foods is an independent chain of supermarkets located in British Columbia, Canada. As of September 2007, the chain operates 20 stores. It is the largest supermarket chain on Vancouver Island. In July 2007, Sobeys announced the purchase of Thrifty Foods for CDN$260 million. .

The store opened Wednesday, June 26, 1996, under Albertson's name. The company is looking forward to serving customers in Olympia.

Albertson's, Inc. is one of the largest retail food-drug chains in the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area. . The company currently operates 785 stores in 19 western, midwestern and southern states.

The company expects to open 69 stores in 1996, of which 23 are currently open. Remodels are expected to be completed on 43 stores and 8 are currently completed.
