Albertson's, Inc. announces expansion of Boise, Idaho and Portland, Ore. distribution centers.

Boise (boi`sē, –zē), city (1990 pop. 125,738), state capital and seat of Ada co., SW Idaho, on the Boise River; inc. 1864. The largest city in Idaho, Boise is an important trade and transportation center.
, Idaho--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 27, 1996--Albertson's, Inc. (NYSE:ABS) announced the expansion of its Boise and Portland Distribution Centers.

The Boise Distribution Center became operational in 1972. This distribution center provides health and beauty care and general merchandise products to Albertson's stores throughout the West. It will be expanded by 73,000 sq. ft., from 158,000 to 231,000 sq. ft. to service new stores planned throughout the West. This expansion should be completed during the summer of 1997.

The Portland Distribution Center became operational in 1988. This distribution center provides grocery and perishable products to Albertson's stores in Oregon and Washington. It will be expanded by 170,000 sq. ft., from 622,000 to 792,000 sq. ft. to service new stores planned throughout Oregon and Washington. This expansion should also be completed during the summer of 1997.

Both expansions will create new jobs in the future which will be filled primarily from the area where each distribution center is located.

Albertson's, Inc. is the fourth largest retail food-drug chain in the United States. The Boise-based company currently operates 769 retail stores and 12 distribution centers in 19 Western, Midwestern and Southern states.
