* Alberto-Culver: Two new independent directors were named to the board of directors. James G. Brocksmith Jr. is an independent business consultant and former chief operating officer of KPMG Peat Marwick LLP. Mr. Brocksmith is also a member of the board of AAR Corporation, Nationwide Financial Services and Sempera Energy. Jim Edgar is a distinguished fellow at the University of Illinois Institute of Government and Public Affairs, as well as previous Governor and Secretary of State in Illinois. Mr. Edgar also serves on the boards of Kemper Insurance Companies Scudder Mutual Funds, John B. Sanfilippo & Son and the National Center of Public Policy and Higher Education. Mr. Brocksmith and Mr. Edgar replace Dr. Harold M. Visotsky, who recently died, and A. Robert Abboud, who decided to not stand for reelection this month.
