Arquitectura de Madrid, and graduated in 1971. His projects and the things he has produced have been published widely in international magazines. is nothing if not formally arresting and geometrically bold. At all scales his work can be described as abstract, sparse and elemental, and over the course of his over 30-year career many recurring themes emerge. As identified by Frampton in his essay, 'On Reading the Elemental', the ubiquitous cube versus courtyard dyad dyad /dy·ad/ (di´ad) a double chromosome resulting from the halving of a tetrad. dy·ad n. 1. Not changing or subject to change; constant. in·var i·a·bil crops up, and this once again emerges as the basis behind the rationale of the Benetton pre-school in Treviso. In plan the nursery comprises three elements: an I Im cube at the centre of the plan, an I Im deep quadrangle quadrangleRectangular open space completely or partially enclosed by buildings of an academic or civic character. The grounds of a quadrangle are often grassy or landscaped. of accommodation that surrounds the cube, and a 2m thick perimeter wall perimeter wall n → mur m d'enceinte perimeter wall n → muro di cinta set out on a 55m diameter circle that contains secret playrooms for the children and essential storage space and utilities. The plan is carved up by a four-legged pin-wheel of covered pathways that connect the segmental perimeter courtyards with the covered patio at the heart of the plan.
