RF Micro Devices, Inc. (Nasdaq: RFMD), a leading provider of proprietary radio frequency integrated circuits (RFICs) for wireless communications applications, today announced that Dr. Albert E. Paladino has been appointed chairman of the board of directors.

Dr. Paladino has served as an outside director of RF Micro Devices since 1992. He succeeds Bill Pratt, co-founder and chief technology officer of RF Micro Devices, who remains a member of the board of directors. Dr. Paladino's appointment is effective immediately.

Dr. Paladino is a director of TranSwitch Corporation and has been chairman of Telaxis Communications Corporation since 1992. From 1981 to 1998, he was a general partner of Advanced Technology Ventures, where he supported the growth of a number of high technology companies. Prior to that, he held senior positions with Raytheon, GTE Laboratories, the National Institute of Standards and Technology and the Congressional Office of Technology Assessment. Dr. Paladino is also a member of the board of trustees of Alfred University, where he serves as vice chairman of the University's endowment investment committee.
