Fine, a native of the Albany, N.Y., area, has been named executive vice president of Photonic Technologies by Corning Incorporated's (NYSE NYSE See: New York Stock Exchange :GLW GLW Glasgow Airport (UK) GLW Gross Laden Weight GLW Good Lady Wife (Australia) ) board of directors. Fine, 42, is currently vice president and general manager of Corning's Photonic Technologies Division. His appointment is effective, January 1, 2001. Corning expects its photonics business to grow more than 100% this year, exceeding $1 billion in revenues. The company continues to broaden its portfolio of photonic products through a combination of internal research and development and strategic acquisitions. Fine joined Corning in 1985 as a research scientist in Corning's research and development division. He has held management positions in Corning's video products and advanced display products businesses, as well as Corning's former consumer products division. Fine was named to his current position in October 1997. Fine holds a bachelor's degree from Amherst College Amherst College, at Amherst, Mass.; founded 1821 as a college for men, coeducational since 1975. A liberal arts institution, Amherst maintains a cooperative program with Smith College, Mount Holyoke College, Hampshire College, and the Univ. of Massachusetts. and a doctorate in geology from the California Institute of Technology California Institute of Technology, at Pasadena, Calif.; originally for men, became coeducational in 1970; founded 1891 as Throop Polytechnic Institute; called Throop College of Technology, 1913–20. . He has also attended the P.M.D. program at Harvard University's Graduate School of Business Administration. Fine was raised in Loudenville, New York New York, state, United States New York, Middle Atlantic state of the United States. It is bordered by Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and the Atlantic Ocean (E), New Jersey and Pennsylvania (S), Lakes Erie and Ontario and the Canadian province of , and attended Shaker High School Shaker High School is a public high school in Latham, Albany County, New York. As of 2005, it has an enrollment of some 1,970 students. In 1985, it was recognized as an Exemplary School by the United States Department of Education, one of the first to receive this distinction. in Latham, class of 1976. Fine currently lives in Corning, N.Y., with his wife Vicki and his two daughters, Hannah, 13, and Leah, 10. His parents, Leonard and Lissa Fine, still reside in Loudonville, N.Y.
