Alba achieves new ISO mark.Aluminium Bahrain (Alba) has migrated to the new ISO (1) See ISO speed. The U.S. member body is ANSI. 9001:2008 standard, becoming the first basic metal products manufacturer to achieve that accolade in Bahrain. Alba's casthouse Quality Management System was re-certified and upgraded to the new ISO standard in June after a rigorous certification assessment conducted by Bureau Veritas an institution, in the interest of maritime underwriters, for the survey and rating of vessels all over the world. It was founded in Belgium in 1828, removed to Paris in 1830, and reëstablished in Brussels in 1870. See also: Bureau BV. The certification will remain valid until June 2012. The certificate was presented to Alba chief executive Ahmed Saleh Al Noaimi by Bureau Veritas BV country chief executive Nicolas Mey. Present were some of the key members of the Alba casthouse team including acting general manager for casthouse and engineering services Ahmed Mohd Al Hashimi, QMS (1) (Minolta-QMS, Inc., Mobile, AL) A manufacturer of laser printers founded in 1977 by Jim Busby. Initially involved with controllers for printing bar codes and labels, it entered the laser printer business in the mid-1980s and set numerous records. co-ordinator Kishore Ghosh, acting manager for casthouse services Garry Martin and casthouse maintenance manager Adel Faraj. "Alba is strongly committed to cost reduction, operational efficiency and maintaining a strict focus on quality," said Al Noaimi. Al Noaimi said the new ISO 9001:2008 certification would provide Alba's customers with a transparent window into its operations, and assure them that the systems already in place at Alba were of global standards. Ghareeb pointed out that the earlier system of supplying argon gas in cylinders was uneconomical as well as unsafe and instead suggested setting up of a dedicated cryogenic storage vessel with an atmospheric vaporiser for storing and supplying gas to the casthouse.
