"We've undertaken a comprehensive business strategy to build new revenues from interactive television," said Bob Ormberg, Director of Cable Marketing, GCI. "At the same time, we're giving hotels the opportunity to look beyond traditional pay-per-view providers for a vastly improved service and increased revenue per room. We've determined that there are over 60 hotels representing over 6,350 rooms in Anchorage, of which 2,235 rooms represented by 21 hotels are within our immediate reach."

GCI begins its service with the Hotel Captain Cook, the second largest hotel in Anchorage, and the Days Inn. The cable operator is currently in negotiations with additional hotels in the area to begin service in the upcoming months.

GCI takes advantage of interactive services through SeaChange like other major cable operators such as AT&T, Cox Communications Cox Communications is a privately owned subsidiary of Cox Enterprises providing digital cable television and telecommunications services in the United States. It is the third-largest[2] cable television provider in the United States, serving more than 6. , and Time Warner. With its two-way cable headend infrastructure, GCI manages the guest service to hotels from its own operations. Unlike other services that use satellite feeds or tape deck systems on hotel premises, hotels gain premium services at higher per-room revenues without incurring capital costs for on-site equipment and maintenance. Further, with SeaChange's patented MediaCluster video server technology, the GuestServe Network provides a cost-effective means to store large selections of digitized movies and easily scales to support the addition of new hotels on the network.

For turnkey support of the hotel business, SeaChange's content licensing experts provide movies and PC games through the company's relationships with film studios. SeaChange's creative development team designs screens and menus for a uniform appearance and easy navigation across guest services.
