Under the terms of the agreement, Covansys will replace two legacy information systems that support the Department's current operations. EDMIS will enhance EED's Child Care Subsidy and Nutrition program business practices by enabling the State, Providers and Clients to utilize technology to satisfy more of their needs. The EDMIS is scheduled for complete implementation in July of 2003.

"Improved information sharing is critical to the success of our programs," said Margaret Brodie, Project Director, "so we're very excited about the new EDMIS. Here at EED, we handle a large volume of complex and sensitive case information on a daily basis. In order to share that information agency-wide, we currently manually re-enter re·en·ter also re-en·ter

Once implemented, EDMIS, a Web-based solution, will allow EED to more accurately log and track case information and seamlessly share that information across the agency to facilitate the distribution of benefits.

Other benefits of the EDMIS include:
-- Improved reporting capabilities to meet federal mandates

-- More secure and improved record keeping

-- Increased productivity for EED employees

-- Enhanced Web-based, functionality that improves the interaction with the Providers and Clients by facilitating pre-screening, enabling easier gathering of attendance data, and streamlining the renewal processes.

"Covansys is proud to have been selected to work with EED to create a better quality of life for Alaska's children," said Arvind Malhotra, senior vice president of Covansys' Public Sector practice. "We feel confident that EED's new integrated and web-enabled system will help them to better serve the 6,000 children enrolled in their programs."
