Alaska Communications Systems Announces Launch of Expanded Kodiak Service.

For years, ACS has served the island's residents with local, long distance, and dial-up Internet service. Now it is expanding service offerings to include wireless mobile voice and data services as well as high-speed Internet connections with its digital subscriber lines (DSL DSL

), in the most populated areas of the island. ACS will launch its Kodiak CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) A method for transmitting simultaneous signals over a shared portion of the spectrum. The foremost application of CDMA is the digital cellular phone technology from QUALCOMM that operates in the 800 MHz band and 1.9 GHz PCS band.  wireless network and Internet service by the end of this year.

The CDMA wireless network offers enhanced voice and data capabilities including the best voice quality, fastest data speeds, and greatest security. Mobile wireless data services will be available on cell phones, PocketPCs and aircards that work in laptop computers, providing mobile Internet connectivity at peak speeds that are multiples of dial-up.

The DSL services will enable Kodiak residents to experience high-speed Internet at the most competitive rates and speeds ever offered to residents on the island. The ACS DSL bundles include the following components: local phone service, 100 minutes of monthly long distance, voice features, and Internet speeds of 128/64Kbps for $59 per month or 256/128Kbps for $79 per month.
