Alaska Communications Systems Announces Expansion of CDMA Coverage to Ketchikan.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Alaska Communications Systems Group, Inc. ("ACS") (NASDAQ:ALSK), Alaska's leading integrated communications provider, today announced the expansion of its CDMA voice and data coverage in Southeast Alaska to include areas surrounding Ketchikan.

"The Ketchikan Gateway Borough is home to approximately 13,000 residents. Additionally, it is a summer destination for hundreds of thousands of tourists making their way through the Inside Passage," said Liane Pelletier, president and chief executive officer of ACS. "This year, the cruise ship industry expects to bring more than a million visitors to Alaska, with more than 800,000 moving through Ketchikan alone. CDMA cell phone users visiting this Southeast destination will now have voice and data roaming capabilities."

The latest CDMA sites in Ketchikan are part of ACS' CDMA build, which is expected to cover 80 percent of the state's population by the middle of this year. Southeast Alaska residents and visitors have already enjoyed CDMA coverage in Juneau and Sitka for some time, with Mobile Broadband Internet capabilities in the state capital of Juneau as well as other population centers of the state. Mobile Broadband Internet speeds peak at 2.4 Mbps.
