Alaska Airlines to Cease Issuing Advance Boarding Passes.


SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 20, 1998--Alaska Airlines will cease issuing advance boarding passes effective Oct. 25 to comply with impending im·pend

Customers will still be able to reserve seat assignments up to 330 days in advance of travel; however, boarding passes will only be issued on the day of departure.

"Increasing demands for airport security have essentially made advance boarding passes a thing of the past," said Ed White, the carrier's vice president of customer service.

White said the move is in line with actions taken by other major U.S. airlines, which have already ceased issuing advance boarding passes. Also, he said that in many cases, Instant Travel, Alaska's electronic ticketing product, has superseded the popularity of advance boarding passes among the carriers customers.

 seen a dramatic increase in the number of passengers traveling on electronic tickets, which enables them to conveniently obtain a boarding pass at any of the more than 80 Instant Travel kiosks located at airports throughout our route system," White said.
