Alaska Airlines poised for profitable year.


SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 20, 1997--John F. Kelly Kel·ly   , Ellsworth Born 1923.

, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Alaska Air Group told shareholders at the company's annual meeting today that the company is poised for a profitable year.

"Alaska Airlines Alaska Airlines, (NYSE: ALK) is an airline based in Seattle, Washington, United States. It operates hubs at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport, Los Angeles International Airport, and Portland International Airport.  is in its best competitive position in years," Kelly said. "At the same time, Horizon Air is adjusting to changes in its markets to improve its competitive position, the results of which we expect to see beginning in the third quarter. Ultimately, however, the level of our overall profitability will be affected by industry actions in the fourth quarter."

In other news, William H. Clapp, a director since 1977, announced his resignation from the board, effective today, to devote more time to his charitable and non-profit activities. Clapp is chairman and president of Matthew G. Norton Co. in Seattle and the founder of Global Partnerships, an organization dedicated to the reduction of poverty.
