Alaska Airlines orders Boeing 737-400s.


SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 19, 1996--Alaska Airlines today announced an order for 12 Boeing (language) BOEING - An early system on the IBM 1130.

[Listed in CACM 2(5):16, May 1959].
 737-400 aircraft along with an option to acquire up to 12 more.

The value of the order, based on the manufacturer's list price, is about $540 million.

"Moreover, we'll be replacing aircraft on a one-for-one basis, making the youngest fleet of any major carrier in the U.S. that much younger." Alaska's current fleet is 7.5 years old.

Kelly said delivery of the 12 new B737-400s will be phased in over the next three years, with the first new plane scheduled to enter the fleet in June 1997. The new planes will replace 12 older McDonnell Douglas McDonnell Douglas was a major American aerospace manufacturer and defense contractor, producing a number of famous commercial and military aircraft.
