According to the press release, Liotine identifies himself as the mechanic who said in 1997 that the jackscrew jackscrew: see screw. should be changed on the aircraft involved in the Flight 261 tragedy. Regardless of Liotine's claims, the fact remains that a jackscrew endplay end·play n. Therefore, Liotine's recommendation in 1997 to replace the jackscrew was incorrect according to the approved procedures that were in place. Because Liotine's claims are under investigation by both the U.S. Attorney's Office and the NTSB NTSB abbr. National Transportation Safety Board , we are precluded from further comment. Liotine was placed on paid administrative leave in 1999 because his presence in the workplace was determined to be disruptive to operations following allegations he made regarding maintenance practices at the company's Oakland hangar. |
