Alaska Airlines, Horizon Air Announce Denver Service.

SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 9, 2002

Alaska Airlines Alaska Airlines, (NYSE: ALK) is an airline based in Seattle, Washington, United States. It operates hubs at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport, Los Angeles International Airport, and Portland International Airport.  and its sister carrier, Horizon Air, will inaugurate in·au·gu·rate

 service April 28 between Denver Denver, city (1990 pop. 467,610), alt. 5,280 ft (1,609 m), state capital, coextensive with Denver co., N central Colo., on a plateau at the foot of the Front Range of the Rocky Mts., along the South Platte River where Cherry Creek meets it; inc. 1861.  and the Pacific Northwest.

The new service will connect Seattle Seattle (sēăt`əl), city (1990 pop. 516,259), seat of King co., W Wash., built on seven hills, between Elliott Bay of Puget Sound and Lake Washington; inc. 1869. , Portland and Boise to Denver with six daily nonstop HP's brand name for its fault-tolerant servers, which range in size from four CPUs to 4,000 CPUs. The NonStop line was created by Tandem Computers, which was acquired by Compaq, which later became part of HP.  flights -- three from Seattle on Alaska, and two from Portland and one from Boise on Horizon.

"From Seattle alone, Denver now represents the fourth most popular destination for travelers," said Gregg Saretsky, Alaska's senior vice president of marketing and planning. "Our new service to Denver will build on the strength of Alaska's Seattle hub, as well as Horizon's Portland and Boise hubs."

Alaska flights 82 and 97 will provide same-plane, continuing service between Anchorage Anchorage (ăng`kərĭj), city (1990 pop. 226,338), Anchorage census div., S central Alaska, a port at the head of Cook Inlet; inc. 1920.  and Denver, while Horizon's service between Denver and Boise will provide same-plane continuing service to Portland for a third flight connecting the Mile-High City to the Rose City.

Alaska will use 138-seat Boeing 737-400s on the new route, while Horizon will use its new 70-seat CRJ-700 jets.

Founded in 1932, Seattle-based Alaska Airlines is the ninth largest commercial air carrier in the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area. . The airline will celebrate its 70th anniversary this year and was recently voted "World's Best Domestic Airline" by readers of Travel+Leisure magazine.

Last year Horizon, headquartered in Seattle with primary hubs in Portland, Boise and Seattle, celebrated its 20th anniversary. The carrier is one of the largest regional carriers in the United States.

Alaska and Horizon together serve 80 cities in the Lower 48, Alaska, Canada and Mexico.
