) today reported January passenger traffic for its subsidiaries, Alaska Airlines Alaska Airlines, (NYSE: ALK) is an airline based in Seattle, Washington, United States. It operates hubs at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport, Los Angeles International Airport, and Portland International Airport.  and Horizon Air.

Alaska Airlines' January traffic increased 13.0 percent to 1.010 billion revenue passenger miles Revenue passenger miles (RPMs) is a measure of a passenger traffic for an airline flight, bus, or train calculated by multiplying the total number of revenue-paying passengers aboard the vehicle by the distance traveled measured in miles.  (RPMs) from 894 million flown a year earlier. Capacity during January was 1.605 billion available seat miles Available seat miles (ASM) is a measure of an airline flight's passenger carrying capacity. It is equal to the number of seats available multiplied by the number of miles flown. This measures an airlines capacity for transporting passengers.  (ASMs), 12.2 percent higher than the 1.430 billion in January 2002.

The passenger load factor (the percentage of available seats occupied by fare-paying passengers) for the month was 62.9 percent, compared to 62.5 percent in January 2002. The airline carried 1,049,000 passengers, compared to 963,900 in January 2002.

HORIZON AIR

Horizon Air's January traffic increased 15.5 percent to 115.3 million RPMs from 99.8 million flown a year earlier. Capacity for January was 209.7 million ASMs, 22.1 percent higher than last year's 171.7 million.

The passenger load factor for the month was 55.0 percent, compared to 58.1 percent last January. The airline carried 356,200 passengers, compared to 340,800 in January 2002.
