Alantro Communications Joins Wireless Ethernet Compatibility Alliance.

, today announced that it has joined the Wireless Ethernet The standard for wireless networking within a home or office. Also known as a "Wi-Fi" or "802.11" network, wireless Ethernet is the wireless counterpart to regular, wired Ethernet, which is also the standard for local networks. WECA was founded by 3Com, Aironet, Intersil (formerly Harris Semiconductor), Lucent Technologies, Nokia, and Symbol Technologies. Its mission is to certify interoperability of IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, New York, www.ieee.org) A membership organization that includes engineers, scientists and students in electronics and allied fields.  802.11 High Rate wireless products through an independent test lab, and promote that standard for the enterprise, small business, and the home. WECA is dedicated to ensuring that IEEE 802.11 High Rate wireless equipment for home or office networks will be interoperable with equipment purchased from any other WECA member.

Alantro Communications has been a contributing member of the IEEE 802.11 standards committee since its inception. Alantro is committed to the development of products using the IEEE 802.11 High Rate wireless standard that will be ratified in late 1999. In 1998, Alantro technology was adopted as the high-performance segment of this standard.
