Alan tells of his high life.


Mountaineer Alan Hinkes Alan Hinkes OBE (April 26, 1954- ) is a British mountaineer from Northallerton in North Yorkshire. Hinkes claims to be the first British mountaineer to have summited all 14 mountains with elevations greater than 8000 metres, the so-called Eight-thousanders, however this claim is  will be reliving his amazing experien-ces when he visits Newcastle.

He will be talking about his climbs to the summits of K2 and Everest, the hardest and highest peaks in the world, his involvement in the 50 years of Everest celebrations in Nepal and his latest expeditions to Anap-urna and Kangchenjunga, showing previously unseen footage.

He will also discuss Challenge 8000, Alan's quest to be the first Briton to climb all 14 of the world's mountains that reach higher than 8000m.

He set out to attempt number 13, Kangchenjunga, earlier this year but his expedition was thwarted when he contracted a serious bronchial bronchial /bron·chi·al/ (brong´ke-al) pertaining to or affecting one or more bronchi.

 infection half way through his trek to base camp and had to be flown out by helicopter.

That effort followed shortly after his record climb of Anapurna one of the world's most dangerous summits last year.
