Aladdin Discovers and Implements Generic Gateway Protection Against Microsoft Outlook Hostile Exploits.

Business Editors, Hi-Tech Writers

CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 26, 2000

eSafe Gateway grows even stronger with the addition of yet another

generic solution against digital threats

solution now protects against Microsoft Outlook's recently detected hostile exploit.

Although a Microsoft patch has been issued to solve the security breach, the solution is limited to the desktop. Due to time constraints and the complexity of providing a patch for each desktop in a network environment, eSafe Gateway's protection is a simple, yet effective proactive solution.

"The gateway solution that Aladdin offers today provides large networks with the ability to effectively implement a solution in a timely fashion, when time is of the essence A phrase in a contract that means that performance by one party at or within the period specified in the contract is necessary to enable that party to require performance by the other party.

Failure to act within the time required constitutes a breach of the contract.
. Being able to block hostile exploits at the gateway provides excellent coverage for this type of breach. Aladdin is to be commended for taking the next step by providing this solution," said Peter Tippett, Chief Technologist, ICSA See TruSecure. .net.

As part of new HeaderVerify (TM) technology, eSafe Gateway blocks any malicious email that attempts to use such an exploit. With Aladdin's eSafe Gateway in place, there is no longer a need for each PC in an organization to individually install a patch. Expecting network administrators to deploy large-scale upgrades and patches to each PC is neither timely nor efficient. Instead, eSafe halts the malicious email at the gateway level. Stopping this email at the gateway prevents the exploit from being used by a hacker, who would attempt to send an email with a corrupt header. Causing a buffer overrun, the corrupt header could initiate a Denial of Service A condition in which a system can no longer respond to normal requests. See denial of service attack.  (DoS) attack or even run arbitrary code In computer security, arbitrary code is executable code introduced externally that runs despite the intent of the original programmer. The code is injected into a currently-running application or its memory space, thus making the application execute the code.  that can result in trojans, viruses, etc.

"This exploit is not a virus, nor can the proper protection be gained through conventional virus-preventing methods," said Shimon Gruper, Aladdin's Executive Vice President of Internet Technologies. "Aladdin's Proactive Protection through eSafe Gateway is a comprehensive solution above and beyond this one particular exploit issue. Our all-encompassing gateway solution is part of our new HeaderVerify (TM) system designed to prevent spam, spoof, relay and other email exploits. eSafe Gateway's protection is quick and effective, keeping just as up-to-date as the threat itself."

ABOUT eSAFE

Aladdin's eSafe product suite, which includes eSafe Desktop, eSafe Enterprise and eSafe Gateway, provides the most comprehensive protection available against hostile elements on the Internet and gives users confidence in their ability to navigate the Internet safely.

eSafe is the only comprehensive suite of content security solutions on the market to provide proactive protection from the gateway to the desktop. It also is the only one to provide Total Sandbox II(TM) Quarantine protection against all forms of malicious content including viruses, vandals and worms. A unique feature found only in Aladdin's eSafe solutions, the Sandbox erects a protective wall around vital system files and isolates all potentially dangerous viruses, vandals and worms in a sterile environment, preventing them from damaging, infecting or stealing from system resources (1) In a computer system, system resources are the components that provide its inherent capabilities and contribute to its overall performance. System memory, cache memory, hard disk space, IRQs and DMA channels are examples. .

Much more than anti-virus protection, the eSafe suite of products enables businesses to:

-- Block user's ability to alter vital system files, thereby

reducing IT maintenance and repair costs.

-- Stop access to web sites with inappropriate or malicious

content, such as hate literature or pornography, or those

sites known to propagate viruses.

-- Restrict outgoing emails from sending classified or prohibited

content.
