Alacritus Creates ''Next Critical Step'' in Disaster Recovery for Patrick Air Force Base; Securitus VTL Sets the Pace.

Alacritus Software, the innovator in disk-based data protection solutions, today announced that it has successfully installed two Securitus VTL units for the 45th Space Wing of the U.S. Air Force. The 45th Space Wing of the U.S. Air Force, located at Patrick Air Force Base, is the unit responsible for all launches at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station.

The 45th Space Wing has installed two Securitus VTL units -- one at Patrick Air Force Base and one at Cape Canaveral, some 30 miles distant. Each Securitus VTL backs up the other's data across a native 2Gigibit fibre channel link. All the primary backups will be sent to multiple virtual libraries configured on the Securitus appliances, which use Dell/EMC CLARiiON for their disk storage.

At each site there is also a physical tape library that is connected to the "backend" of each Securitus appliance. Securitus then automatically generates identical cloned copies of all back ups and exports them to physical media for off-site storage. Securitus will ensure efficient usage of the tape media by utilizing its patent pending compression estimation technology -- which at the same time generates tapes that are in native format.

Securitus creates backup appliances that use arrays of inexpensive disk, a streamlined file system, and inexpensive controllers to make the performance of disk economical for very-large-scale backup environments. Improvements in performance typically exceed 10X over customers' current data protection schemas.
