Al Rabie explains juice making to Saudi students.

Al Rabie Saudi Food Company gave a tour of its factory and explained the process of juice manufacturing to 2,200 Saudi school and college students, as part of the company's outreach program to educate students on general life matters.

A survey conducted by the Saudi Ministry of Economy and Planning's Department of Statistics and Information reveals a 13.7 per cent illiteracy rate among the Saudi population. "In response, companies in the Kingdom have initiated a new strategy of educating students on general life matters. We at Al Rabie has initiated an outreach program for school and college students as an extension to our education and training programs for the company's employees," said Monther Al Harthi, chief, Al Rabie Saudi Food Company. Further, a World Bank report indicates a relatively high adult literacy rate in Saudi Arabia, despite the fact that the primary school enrollment level in the Kingdom was low.

The high rate of adult literacy could be attributed mainly to the knowledge passed on through religious organizations, local mosques and Quranic schools, which is a growing trend in the MENA region. "The tour included a brief training on how our machines work and an explanation of the production of food and beverage process from beginning to end in addition to strict policies of quality control. Our aim is to educate and inform more students and the youth of our society on technology and business matters," concluded Al Harthi.
