Al Quirk Named Corporate Treasurer At Aetna.


HARTFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 2, 1999--

As treasurer, Quirk will continue to direct Aetna's financing and merger and acquisition activity, as well as take over responsibility for capital management, treasury operations and rating agency relations. In addition, Quirk will continue to oversee Aetna's corporate finance, foreign exchange, corporate insurance and pension management areas.

"I'm very pleased that Al has agreed to take on these new responsibilities," said Alan J. Weber, vice chairman for strategy and finance. "Al has added significantly to our business by managing over $10 billion in financings, acquisitions and divestitures."

A native of Boston, Quirk, 40, joined Aetna in 1984 as an investment analyst. He held increasingly responsible positions in the investment department before being named senior investment officer in 1988. He joined strategy and finance in 1991 as assistant vice president, and was promoted to vice president in 1994. Before joining Aetna, he worked for General Electric and in the banking industry. He is a graduate of Holy Cross College
