Al Muheer prompts jig of delight from Calypso Clive.

Byline: Lee Mottershead

AFTER saddling Nideeb to land the day's second race, Clive Brittain Clive Brittain (born December 15, 1934) is a British race-horse trainer. He began training as an apprentice in 1949, and on his own as a licensed trainer in the early 1970s. He currently trains at Carlburg Stables in Newmarket, Suffolk.  promised that a second winner on the card would prompt him to dance either the rumba, samba or gay gordons The Gay Gordons is a nickname of The Gordon Highlanders, a former infantry regiment of the British army. It is also applied to:
  • Gay Gordons (solitaire), a form of the card game Solitaire (or Patience)
  • Gay Gordons (dance), a popular ceilidh dance
. When 40-1 outsider Al Muheer duly delivered success number two, Brittain kept to his word with a dazzling display that combined all three and probably earned him a place on the next series of Strictly Come Dancing Come Dancing is a BBC TV ballroom dancing competition show that ran on and off from 1949 to 1998, becoming one of television's longest-running shows.

The show was created by Eric Morley, the founder of Miss World, and began in 1949 by broadcasting from regional

Like his trainer, Al Muheer proved to be pretty nifty on his feet, although only after one of those feet had delayed the start of the pounds 150,000 Abu Dhabi International Handicap by becoming detached from its racing plate.

With the footwear back on, Seb Sanders' mount went one place better than his royal meeting second in the Buckingham Palace Stakes, showing an excellent attitude to fend off Hayley Turner aboard Secret Society. The latter's trainer Michael Bell was also responsible for third home Redford.

prefers to say nothing, Brittain is always happy talking, and he did plenty of it in the winner's enclosure. "I never cry when I lose, but when I win, I enjoy it," said the trainer after being shown television footage of his post-race jig.

Expanding on the pre-race scare, he then disclosed: "It was a carefully laid plan. I told the horse to shed a shoe, keep the others waiting and then destroy them!" Clearly on a roll, Brittain then made clear that he had not been concerned by Al Muheer's tame effort in the Bunbury Cup, as that race had been staged at Newmarket and not the four-year-old's favoured venue.

"He does like Ascot and he's a 10lb better horse on this racecourse," pointed out the trainer. Asked why, he said: "The money's here."

Secret Society and Redford are also both proven Ascot performers, but on this occasion had to settle for place money. Secret Society is now likely to be given a break, with Redford likely to be aimed at the William Hill Ayr Gold Cup The Ayr Gold Cup is a flat horse race in the United Kingdom for three-year-old and above thoroughbreds. It is run over a straight 6 furlongs (1,207 m) at Ayr Racecourse in September.

It was first run in 1804 when the race was contested over two separate heats of 2 miles.
