Akua Parker, a lead dancer with Dance Theatre of Harlem (which is still on hiatus), has signed with Cincinnati Ballet as a corps member. Parker said she is "ecstatic about the new opportunity.".


Akua Parker, a lead dancer with Dance Theatre of Harlem Dance Theatre of Harlem, the first black classical ballet company.  as a corps member. Parker said she is "ecstatic about the new opportunity." Artistic director Victoria Morgan, who auditioned 112 women for the position, said, "There was something about her spunk, her confidence, her physicality. I'm curious to see her in more physical roles. She would make a good Hermia in Balanchine's Midsummer Night's Dream." Parker will also dance in contemporary ballets Contemporary ballet is a form of dance influenced by both classical ballet and modern dance. It takes its technique and use of pointework from classical ballet, although it permits a greater range of movement that may not adhere to the strict body lines set forth by schools of  by Val Caniparoli, Stanton Welch, and Lynne Taylor-Corbett.
