Akorn, Inc. Announces Tentative Approval of Diclofenac Sodium Ophthalmic Solution 0.1%.

BUFFALO GROVE, Ill. -- Akorn, Inc. (AMEX: AKN) today announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has granted tentative approval for Akorn's Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) for Diclofenac Sodium Ophthalmic Solution 0.1% in 2.5 ml and 5 ml dropper bottles. Final approval is expected upon expiry of patent protection for Voltaren[R] Ophthalmic Solution 0.1% in October 2007.

Upon final approval, Akorn's Diclofenac Sodium Ophthalmic Solution 0.1% will be the generic equivalent of Novartis' Voltaren[R] Ophthalmic Solution 0.1% indicated for the treatment of post operative inflammation in ophthalmic surgeries. The brand product had annual sales of approximately $22 million in 2005, based on IMS sales data.
