Leadership Appointments

Betsy Appleby, who joined Akamai at the beginning of 2005, has been promoted to the role of Vice President, Akamai Public Sector. In her new role, Ms. Appleby will run Akamai's public sector sales organization and oversee all public sector operations. Ms. Appleby brings more than 15 years of public service experience and leadership at the Department of Defense (DoD) in IT acquisition and program management. Ms. Appleby reports directly to Robert Hughes, executive vice president of Global Sales, Services and Marketing at Akamai.

"We are very excited to have Betsy lead our efforts in the public sector," said Hughes. "She has made a significant impact on our success over the last year, and has earned the respect of our entire public sector organization. Betsy brings to Akamai an extensive background in working successfully for and with government agencies, including her experience in leading large teams and complex programs in the Department of Defense. Her career has been marked by leading change through innovation and agility."

Before joining Akamai, Ms. Appleby served as the DoD Program Manager for NetCentric Enterprise Services (NCES NCES National Center for Education Statistics

Ms. Appleby was also responsible for the design and award of a commercially managed service pilot for Next Generation Collaboration Services, an initiative that was unprecedented in the DoD for maximizing the capabilities of network technologies while reducing the footprint and administration of local resources. Prior to these roles, Ms. Appleby led Public Key Enabling efforts for the DoD, where she successfully developed and leveraged enterprise solutions to meet the information assurance requirements within the Combatant Commands, Services, and Agencies.

Also new to Akamai's Public Sector team is Fran Trentley, who joins as Director of Operations and Delivery. Mr. Trentley, a retired Army Lieutenant Colonel, most recently served at the White House Communications Agency as Chief Information Officer where he led efforts to modernize communications technology in support of Presidential travel missions. As Director of Operations and Delivery for Akamai Public Sector he will be responsible for overseeing Akamai's managed services offerings within the government.

"Betsy and Fran bring strengthened leadership, energy, and relevant government experience to our public sector efforts," continued Hughes. "In 2006, we will continue to invest in the expansion of our public sector team commensurate with our growing federal, state and local government client base."

Akamai Expands Presence in Public Sector

"Our office expansion and development of a command center to closely monitor Internet traffic reflects our commitment to provide world-class support and operations for government missions."

Modeled after Akamai's main NOCC at its Cambridge, Massachusetts headquarters, the extension of similar monitoring capabilities in its public sector office will provide unique insight into overall Internet activity, demonstrating the value of Akamai's global platform to ensure superior content and application delivery and security, while simplifying e-government infrastructure management.
